Apprenticeships On The Increase

Xtrac recognise the importance of apprenticeships for both the individual and the employer and as part of Xtrac’s ongoing apprenticeship and under-graduate recruitment programmes, Jane Gilham – Head of Human Recourses, Warren Page – Apprenticeship Manager and Rebecca Bacon – Human Resources Assistant exhibited at Bradfield College’s recent ‘Broaden Your Horizons’ careers fair.

The event which is growing in popularity year on year is attend by the College’s own lower 6th students and pupils from local schools in Newbury, Thatcham, Theale and Burghfield Common.

Warren Page and his colleagues were on hand to give advice and highlight Xtrac’s employment opportunities through our award winning apprenticeship and undergraduate schemes. Over 40 exhibitors attended the Bradfield College event from a wide range of organisations such as UK universities, gap year companies, apprenticeship schemes and the Armed Forces.

Page had also been on hand a few weeks earlier, at Newbury College’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) event, along with James McCardle – Assistant Chief Designer and Megan Clarkson – Trainee Design Engineer.

This STEM event was to show Newbury College’s student’s studying STEM based subjects and pupils from schools from the surrounding area wishing to progress within a STEM subject.

Xtrac focused on showcasing the company’s employment opportunities and highlighted our apprenticeship and undergraduate programmes which have trained well over 100 young people since the schemes began.

Each year Xtrac take at least 5 apprentices and 5 undergraduates and provide full training.  The apprentices college work is taught by Newbury College with practical training provided in house by Xtrac.  Xtrac’s undergraduates work during a year out at Xtrac as part of their Bachelor or Masters degree studies, and return to university to complete their final year with a bursary from Xtrac, and support for final year project work.

Applications for the 2018 intake apprentice programme open in December 2017, and undergraduates in October 2017.
