Research and Development Test Manager

About The Job

We are seeking a Research and Development Test Manager to support the rapid growth of our business and strengthen our busy Research and Development team.

The overall objective includes ensuring that the department is able to complete all gearbox build testing, initial build validation and development testing to schedule whilst ensuring the required levels of quality and output are achieved. This will include management of workflow, resourcing, planning rig & tooling maintenance and documentation updates. To support these objectives, you will be responsible for the management of several Technicians, their workload, hours, holiday and personal development. In some exceptional circumstances you may be required to operate a test rig to support delivery. Reporting to the Head of Research and Development you will also be responsible for managing, maintaining and developing the Research and Development laboratory area and test rigs.

About You

The successful candidate will require experience of managing and developing small & highly-technical teams whilst working in a pressured, unsupervised engineering environment, supported by experience of intradepartmental communication, reporting and planning. You will require the ability to lead and develop a team with excellent intrapersonal skills to promote a positive team culture. Good communication, organisation and time-management skills are essential to manage workload and meet deadlines in a department where work priorities can change very quickly.

Ideal candidates will be educated to a minimum of an HNC in an engineering related discipline, with experience of basic mechanical and electrical assembly, equipment maintenance, machining knowledge, electronics and electrical experience, a good understanding of mechanical and electrical principles in automotive and motorsport vehicle systems along with having a working understanding of test practices, Prince 2, 5S and Kaizen principles.

Preferably the successful candidate will have working understanding of data logging concepts and material testing however this is not a must.

Excellent IT skills including Outlook, Word and Excel are fundamental for the role as well having a structured approach to problem solving and the ability to interpret component part, assembly drawings and written documents.
