About The Job
Xtrac have several 1 year placement opportunities for 2020 to 2021 as part of our award winning industrial placement scheme. Students will work in Engineering as a Trainee Engineer and will start in early August 2019. The opportunities will be in our Design Office or Advanced Engineering Group.
The level of responsibility and type of project he/she would work on, depends on the ability of the individual to rise to the challenges set, but the expectation is that the individual will become an integrated, contributing member of the engineering team. Xtrac placement students only work on “real” projects which ultimately end up on race cars and specialist vehicles!
Successful candidates will undergo induction including training on the Siemens NX11 3D CAD system, the company ERP system, and a thorough introduction to the company’s manufacturing processes. Each student will be assigned a mentor who is there to ensure that the transition from student to Trainee Engineer is as seamless as possible.
The Trainee Engineer is a position of fully paid employment, and the successful applicants will become a full time member of staff for the duration of the placement year. 23 days paid holiday, sick pay and a company contribution to a pension is provided.
Following the placement year each student’s performance is assessed and the very best are offered sponsorship by Xtrac to complete their studies. This sponsorship includes an annual bursary, and support by Xtrac if the sponsored student undertakes a final year project for Xtrac. Previous students have been offered full time positions post-graduation if they have performed successfully during their placement year and during their academic studies, and many have successfully developed their career at Xtrac and have achieved promotion to Senior and Principal Engineers.
The candidate should be a student of aeronautical, automotive, mechanical engineering, or similar Bachelors or Master’s Degree in their second (of three) or third (of four) year of study. Good academic results are a pre-requisite, as is an interest in motorsport. Any experience or exposure to an engineering, automotive or motorsport environment is desirable. The candidate must be able to work unsupervised, be self-motivated and be willing to work additional hours where necessary.
