CNC Turning Programmer

About the Role

To produce CNC programs and help design and arrange for the purchase of tooling for Turning manufacture of parts to the company quality standard.

Day to Day 

  • To produce part programs using EdgeCAM.
  • Run Machine simulations using Vericut to provide accurate run-times and prevent machine Collisions.
  • To understand and assist Production Engineering with methods of manufacture (including work holding and cutting tools) and make known what purchases are required.
  • To aid in the design and manufacture of work-holding fixtures and devices.
  • You will have the ability to work under pressure, have a robust approach to problem solving and an ability to forge good working relationships with your colleagues.
  • To attend formal design reviews as appropriate to communicate Production Engineering issues related to particular projects to consult with Production Control for work requirements.
  • To provide manufacturing advice to Xtrac Engineers
  • To provide feed back on drawings, including determining and understanding of specific tooling requirements and checking the availability of tooling required.
  • To be part of the personal development process and attend reviews as required.
  • To always observe the Health and Safety rules.
  • To follow the company quality procedures.
  • To carry out any reasonable additional duties as requested by management.

Mechanical/Engineering background – E

Apprenticeship –E

Knowledge

Working knowledge of EdgeCAM – E

Working knowledge of Siemens NX CAD – D

Working knowledge of Vericut – D

Working knowledge of ERP systems – D

Okuma controls – E

Fanuc control – D

Knowledge of machinery used – E

Single and Twin turret Lathes

Twin spindle, twin turret Lathes

Good knowledge of Speeds and feeds – E

Good understanding of Word address programs – E

Experience

Programming of CNC Turning machines – E

CNC Turning/Tool making experience – E

Motorsport/Automotive/Aerospace background – D

Small batches with short lead times – E

Working under pressure – D

Working unsupervised – E

Skills/Abilities

High PC skills – E

Special Requirements of the role

Flexibility – evening/weekends/early start may be necessary on occasion.
