James Colgate appointed as Chief Operating Officer at Xtrac

We are pleased to welcome James Colgate as Xtrac’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO) and a key member of the company’s leadership team. Working closely with the CEO and broader leadership group, and directly managing the operations team including the Operations Director Steve Hatt, the Supply Chain Director Shaun Palfrey, and the Health and Safety Manager Natalie Morgan, James will devise, implement and manage the operational strategy and ensure its successful execution in alignment with Xtrac’s long-term business objectives. James’ responsibility is across all Xtrac sites in the UK and the USA, and Zoerkler in Austria.

Prior to joining Xtrac, James served as Chief Operating Officer at Fortescue Zero, where he was responsible for scaling the development and manufacture of zero-emission power system products. His role included establishing a global network of advanced manufacturing facilities across the UK, Australia, and the USA, alongside developing the organisational capabilities to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions to both Fortescue and third-party customers

His previous experience includes a significant service as Operations Director at Williams F1, where he was responsible for the delivery of F1 cars to the track, supporting the team for over 250 races. Since 2011, James played a key role in forming and growing the original WAE business turning Williams F1 technology into a diverse range of customer projects, helping establish WAE as a world-leader in electrification and energy storage.

James holds a master’s degree in manufacturing and mechanical engineering from the University of Cambridge. He also began his career in management consulting with OC&C Strategy, where he specialised in M&A and growth strategies for global technology companies.
