Indy 500 Review 2021

Sunday 30th May 2021 – The 105th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge returned to it’s customary May calendar slot and saw a new member join the select four-time winner club, as Helio Castroneves crossed the finish line just half a second ahead of Alex Palou.

Castroneves, who started eighth on the grid, drove the No. 06 AutoNation/Sirius XM Honda of Meyer Shank Racing to the team’s first Indy win and first NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory.

Operating from their ‘Gasoline Alley’ track-side office, the Xtrac support team were on hand throughout the month of May during the various practice and qualifying sessions for any parts supply or technical assistance requirements the teams had in the run up to and during the race.

Xtrac’s P1011 gearbox is a sole supply unit and therefore fitted to every car starting the race and continues Xtrac’s unbroken record of supplying every Indy 500 winning race transmission, since the year 2000. The units reliability record was underscored again during the 2021 race, with 100% reliability for all competitors.
