Xtrac’s mechatronic solutions cover controllers and actuators for the clutch, gear shift and limited slip differential preload adjustment, with customisation or bespoke design offered to extend their usage into other areas of the vehicle.

The performance, safety and dependability of the transmission system is a product of how the complete package of hardware and software works together. Xtrac's embedded software engineering team are an integral part of the development process, taking advantage of direct access to the hardware and design data to develop robust control solutions and verify the implementations as each level of the system is built up.

Calibration activities are supported by Xtrac's extensive testing facilities, which cover development from the individual component level through to loaded full transmission testing with road load simulation and engine modelling. During in-vehicle calibration our engineers will work alongside our customers with vehicles at proving grounds and on the racetrack to ensure that engineering sign-off is achieved.

Successful integration of the gearbox hardware with its control and actuation systems and into the vehicle is key to getting the best performance for each customer programme. We manage the transmission system requirements in line with vehicle attribute goals to deliver complete systems that are ready for integration with the car, thereby reducing risk and time required to achieve driveability milestones.

With controllers, actuators and gearbox all developed in-house, our multi-disciplinary engineering team optimises the mechanical, electrical, electronic and software elements of the system together and provides a single point of contact for customer programmes. This speeds up the pace of development and reduces down time during vehicle integration activities, which are supported by our engineers both on- and off-site.

We have solutions for automated manual transmissions using synchroniser, dog clutch and Xtrac's patented IGS (instantaneous gear shift) gear engagement mechanisms, and specific products and implementations tailored to the distinct requirements of either high performance automotive or motorsport applications.
