Exhibition of Capability at Bentley Motors, Crewe
Thursday 17th January 2013
Xtrac supports the “Showcase Exhibition of Capability” event at Bentley Motors, Crewe, under the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) “Motorsport to Automotive” initiative. The event provides a platform for MIA members to showcase their products, services and capability to the Bentley staff within the surroundings of the Legends sports complex normally home to Bentley employees keeping fit and healthy.
The showcase follows similar “Showcase of Capability” events held in 2012 to Nissan at Cranfield, Jaguar Land Rover at Gaydon and Ford Dunton with thousands of engineers having passed through the exhibitions seeking inspirational ideas and growing business networks. Clive Woolmer, Xtrac’s General Manager for the Automotive and Engineering Business Unit and James Setter, Automotive Business Manager, will greet those visiting the Xtrac stand.
Product highlights on display will be Xtrac’s latest prototype ready concept for a seven speed hybridised road car transmission, particularly targeted at the Premium Luxury Automotive Sector exactly where Bentley sits. This sector above all others has the hardest challenge to meet future planned emission legislation which demands all vehicles achieve CO2 emissions of not more than 95 g/km from 2020. Putting this into context, the sector demands highly emotional products typically powered by V8 and V12 engines with capacities generally in the four to six litre range. For example, the V12 6,0 litre Bentley Continental emits 338 g/km CO2 (will require a 72% reduction) and the new Bentley GT V8 4,0 litre emits 246 g/km CO2 (will require a 61% reduction) indicating just what a task is being set. Xtrac believes in order to achieve these reductions, game changing technology solutions are required such as hybrid powertrains which it offers with the 1010 transmission on display.
Under Xtrac’s “Race to Road” philosophy the Automotive and Engineering Business Unit endeavours to identify new business opportunities where Xtrac’s expertise can satisfy both a race and road application. Particularly in the Automotive sector, Xtrac is the ideal transmission technology partner for niche low volume, research and pre-development prototyping projects as proven with several Technology Strategy Board (TSB) funded programmes.
