Introduction:

For the start of the 2003 season, Xtrac opened a new facility in Indianapolis. Located just a few minutes drive from the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the 6,900 square foot building is equipped to offer engineering and spares support for the ever expanding North and South American markets. This also includes gearbox servicing and track support for the Indy Racing League, Grand AM Sportscar Series, American Le Mans Series, desert and closed-course off road racing. Recently, Xtrac Inc further expanded its Indianapolis operations to facilitate the assembly of all new IRL and Grand Am gearboxes and differentials, with the capability to support gearbox assembly for any other projects required.

In January 2010 a new permanent engineering presence was set up in Mooresville, North Carolina working closely with both the Indianapolis and UK facilities to offer Xtrac’s benchmark high quality and confidential engineering support specifically to the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck series, including gearboxes, crown wheel and pinions, service contracts and engineering consultancy.

Xtrac Inc is linked to the UK base with ‘real time’ engineering connection via the company’s EDS Unigraphics CAD/CAM system, and a rolling exchange of engineers ensures that the latest engineering and quality standards are maintained throughout the group. Commercially Xtrac Inc works on the same ERP system as utilized at the UK headquarters giving instantaneous inventory and WIP data allowing accurate feedback on project progress and costing 24 hours a day.

Xtrac Inc. offers its customers test and event support, providing a comprehensive, competent technical support service whatever the motorsport series, wherever it is taking place. Furthermore, throughout the life cycle of an Xtrac product, our expertise and advice is only a telephone call away.

Services offered include:

Engineering;
provided by on site Design Engineers, using the same resources and support as available in the UK who can provide all engineering advice, analysis and complete product design. Meeting and communicating with North American customers on the same time lines. A video conference link is available not only between the Indianapolis and UK facilities but also with customers worldwide with either IP (Web) or ISDN equipped Video Conferencing equipment.

Track Support;
with two fully customized Engineering and Spares Support trailers currently supporting all IRL, Grand Am Rolex Series as well as various other race series, track support is second to none. Each trailer is manned by commercial and engineering staff and includes a vast stock, workshop and a private meeting area.

Training Programmes
; ensuring that the customer's technicians are provided with the best introduction to the product, how it operates and how to maintain it.

Gearbox Builds; Xtrac has continued to expand the services available at the Xtrac Inc facility and for the last 2 years every gearbox used in the IRL and GRAND-AM championship has been built in the US, along with a variety of one-off projects. These efforts are further supported with an ever increasing amount of parts sourced directly in the US.

Rebuilds/Servicing; full time in house technicians are available to service our products with the same skill and attention to detail that goes into the assembly of each new gearbox. Once assembled, products undergo pre-delivery tests to ensure that both prototype and production assemblies leave the facility 'ready to run'. This service can range from a single rebuild to the management of a season long maintenance and support programme.

Spin Rig; at the completion of every build and after every rebuild, gearboxes are run on our in-house spin rig to ensure the correct operation of the box prior to shipment to the customer. This facility can also be used by customers wishing to test their transmission under certain simulated conditions, such as an efficiency development programme.

Non-Destructive Testing Facilities; Xtrac’s Indianapolis facility offers rapid Roll Checking and Crack Checking (Magnaflux Magnetic Particle Inspection) of components.  Such Non-Destructive Testing techniques are the cornerstones of appropriate and preventative maintenance, which can ensure long, reliable and cost effective running of motorsport transmissions. These and other NDT facilities are charged at Xtrac Inc’s hourly service rate. Xtrac can also provide a fully documented report package as required.

Xtrem Finishing;
working closely with our dedicated Process Engineers in the UK, Xtrac Inc.  offer Xtrem Polishing at its Indianapolis facility. The entire process is controlled to ensure that the finished component is within a specified tolerance range, ensuring that the benefits of reduced fatigue and friction and increased component life gained through the process is not lost through out of tolerance components.
