Production Engineers There are great opportunities for experienced Production Engineers looking to advance their career within a fast moving automotive environment. We have positions both in the Motorsport based Design Department and our Automotive and Engineering Group. Your sound working knowledge of manufacturing, will be the key to you developing Xtrac’s processes and manufacturing techniques, which will involve working closely with Engineers, Foreman & machinists at all levels across the company, to effect change and therefore strong influencing skills are essential. Working as part of the Production Engineering team you will also be responsible for advising designers about relevant manufacturing issues and dealing with general manufacturing queries from Xtrac employees, sub contract suppliers and customers. In this position you will have production engineering responsibility across multiple projects, requiring good initiative and ingenuity and working to tight deadlines. Ideally you will be qualified to HNC/HND level in an engineering related discipline and have substantial post qualifying experience within a similar production engineering team in precision manufacturing. Essential skills are the ability to work under pressure, have a robust approach to problem solving, being able to forge good working relationships, good organisational, and IT skills. CAD skills are essential, with ideally experience of Unigraphics, although training will be given. You will be a confident, flexible, self motivated team player with excellent communication skills and understanding of working with procedures, controls and quality standards. Design Analyst Working in the Advanced Engineering Group, reporting to the Head of Gear Technology, the successful candidate will be joining the Gear Technology department and be responsible for providing quality analytical engineering solutions to support Xtrac products, particularly for our Automotive and Engineering Projects. You will design gears and bearings and analyse bearings using in house and proprietary software, helping to manage projects to specification, timescale, cost and quality. You will also undertake Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using ANSYS, use classical hand calculation and undertake transmission system analysis (including NVH optimisation, component fatigue analysis and gear change shift quality), and present such work in a logical and structured manner. You will manage and co-ordinate investigation reports for failed components, and write reports for analysis and calculation work for internal and external customer work, and will contribute to the further development of MatLab simulation of transmission systems. You will also support the Head of Gear Technology, Engineering Project Management and our Commercial function with project planning and progress reporting, support and contribute to technology training seminars for internal staff, and support student and university projects. Establishing, maintaining and managing a strong working relationship with new and existing customers at all levels will also be key to this role. Ideally you should be a graduate of MSc, MEng or PhD in a mechanical, automotive, aeronautical discipline, or similar, with substantial post qualification experience gained in a similar high precision engineering or research environment. Those with BSc or BEng qualifications or similar will be considered with the relevant experience. Experience of structural analysis and/or analysis of rotating machinery, ANSYS or similar FEA package and UG NX7.5 or similar 3D CAD system is essential, and experience in any of the following disciplines would be an advantage:-
You will have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a pressurised priority changing environment, be able to manage and prioritise your own workload, have initiative and enthusiasm, have the ability to work to tight deadlines, have a flexible approach to work and very importantly possess excellent communication skills at all levels. Full training will be given in the use of the appropriate CAE tools. Design Engineers We currently have great opportunities available for experienced Design Engineers to join our Engineering Team, both in the Motorsport based Design Department and our Automotive and Engineering Group. Reporting to a Principal Engineer and operating as part of a small cohesive team, you will be responsible for the design and detail of gearbox components and complete transmission systems, using the Unigraphics 3D CAD system. Qualified to a minimum of BEng or BSc degree level, or equivalent, in Mechanical, Automotive or Aerospace Engineering you will have gained post graduate experience in a design engineering environment using 3D CAD. Knowledge of Unigraphics NX7.5 is preferable, however training will be given. Previous Motorsport experience is also preferable, but not essential, but you should definitely have experience of designing rotating metal components. Experience of ‘high volume’ automotive design would be an advantage for the Automotive and Engineering position. Excellent organisational and IT skills (MS Office) are a prerequisite, and your experience to date will have equipped you with knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, controls and quality standards, together with MRP systems. Success of projects will depend on your excellent communication skills, specifically to liaise closely with customers and to forge good working relationships throughout Xtrac. You will have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a pressurised priority changing environment, be able to manage and prioritise your own workload, have initiative and enthusiasm, have the ability to work to tight deadlines, have a flexible approach to work and very importantly possess excellent communication skills at all levels.
