Design Office and Gear Technology

Unfortunately, we are no longer accepting applications for the 2010/2011 intake, as the closing date has now passed.

However this is an annual scheme so please find information below.   The details of how to apply for 2011/2012 intake will be updated on the website in November 2010.

All students will work in the Engineering Department as a Trainee Engineer in one of the two above areas.

The level of responsibility and type of project he/she would work on, depends on the ability of the individual to rise to the challenges set, but the expectation is that the individual will become an integrated, contributing member of the design team.  Xtrac placement students only work on “real” projects which ultimately end up on race cars and specialist vehicles!

The candidate should be a student of aeronautical, automotive, mechanical engineering, or similar Bachelors or Masters degree in their second (of three) or third (of four) year of study.  Good academic results are a pre-requisite, as is an interest in motorsport.  Any experience or exposure to an engineering, automotive or motorsport environment is desirable.  The candidate should be able to work unsupervised, be self-motivated and be prepared to work long hours where necessary.

The induction for a placement student includes training on the Unigraphics 3D CAD system, the company ERP system, and a thorough introduction to the company’s manufacturing processes, which may include a secondment for up to two months to the Production Control Office.  Each student is assigned a mentor who is there to ensure that the transition from student to Trainee Engineer is as seamless as possible.

Previous students have been offered full time positions post graduation if they have performed successfully during their placement year.
